Merchandising Tips for Retail and C-Stores


Regardless of the size of your store, merchandising can make a big impact on your sales and return traffic.  Choosing the right products for your mix of customers is important, but once that is done, presentation is everything. Here are some tips to make your store shine:

  1. Place similar products together.
  2. Arrange the best sellers at eye level, adding extra facings will give you more sales opportunities.
  3. Ensure you stock rotate with the shortest best by date in front
  4. All products must be clean, in date and undamaged. Flip-up feather dusters make it easy.
  5. Clean and maintain your fixtures, removing any unsafe conditions
  6. Place medicines on the top shelf for safety
  7. Fill in shelves, leaving no empty spaces, double face other lines as needed.
  8. Place your own-label alternatives next to the major brands to demonstrate price competitiveness.
  9. Make sure prices and tags are correct – its  required by law.
  10. Stock your store 3 times a day. This will ensure that the store looks full encouraging customers to make more impulse purchases.  Restocking an hour before the next shift comes in, and during your slower times of day assures a neat appearance. Customers will come back more often to a clean, full looking store.
